Privacy Policy
A simple, honest explanation of what data we collect, how we use it, and what we don't do with your information.
The short version (in plain English)
We built Gold Rate Today as a free reference site. We don't need much information from you, so we don't collect much. Here's the gist:
- We do not require accounts, logins, or any personal information to use this site.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties.
- We use minimal cookies — only what's needed to keep the site fast and to understand which pages are useful.
- Standard server logs (IP address, browser, page visited) are kept briefly for security and diagnostics.
- If you email us, we obviously have your email — we use it only to reply.
What's in this policy
1. Who we are
Gold Rate Today ("we", "us", "our") is a free reference website that publishes daily gold rates for India. The site is operated by Kaisar Ahmad Tantary, based in India. You can contact us anytime at support@goldratetoday.net.in.
This policy explains what information we collect when you use goldratetoday.net.in, and what we do (and don't do) with it.
2. What we collect
We collect very little, because we don't need very much.
Information you give us voluntarily
- Contact form / email enquiries: If you email us at support@goldratetoday.net.in or use our contact form, we receive your name, email address, and the contents of your message. We only use these to reply to you.
Information collected automatically
- Standard server logs: Like most websites, our server records basic technical information for each request — your IP address, browser type, operating system, the page you visited, referring URL, and the timestamp. This is used for security (detecting abuse, blocking attacks) and diagnostics (fixing broken pages).
- Cookies and similar technologies: See section 4 below for details.
What we do not collect
To be very clear, we do not collect any of the following from visitors:
- Names, phone numbers, addresses, or other personal details (unless you voluntarily email them to us).
- Financial information, bank details, or payment information.
- Aadhaar, PAN, or any government-issued identification.
- Precise location data (we do not use GPS or geolocation).
- Browsing history outside our site.
3. How we use this information
We use the limited data we collect only for these purposes:
- To respond to your emails and support requests.
- To keep the site running smoothly, fast, and secure.
- To understand which pages visitors find useful (in aggregate, anonymously), so we can improve content.
- To detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, abuse, security incidents, and bot traffic.
- To comply with applicable laws and respond to lawful requests from authorities.
We do not use your data for advertising profiling, behavioural targeting, or to build user profiles for sale.
4. Cookies & tracking
A cookie is a small text file stored by your browser. We use only essential and basic-analytics cookies. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies on this site at present.
- Essential cookies: Required for the site to function correctly (e.g., remembering your preferences during a session). These cannot be disabled.
- Analytics cookies (if used): If we use a privacy-respecting analytics service in the future, it will count visits anonymously (no personally identifying information). We will update this policy to name the service before enabling it.
You can block or delete cookies via your browser settings. Doing so may affect some site features but won't prevent you from reading the rate.
5. Third-party services
We try to keep third-party tracking off this site. The third parties we currently use are limited to:
- Hosting infrastructure: Our website is hosted on a commercial web hosting provider (currently Hostinger). The hosting provider has access to standard server logs as part of their service. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies.
- Content Delivery Networks (CDNs): We load common libraries (such as Chart.js) and fonts (such as Google Fonts) from public CDNs. These services may log your IP address and browser as part of serving the file. We do not control or share data with them beyond what your browser sends automatically.
- Gold rate data sources: The rates we publish are sourced from public market references (MCX, IBJA, international spot price feeds). We do not share any visitor information with these sources.
If we ever add advertising (e.g., Google AdSense) or third-party analytics, this policy will be updated to clearly disclose what those services collect and how to opt out.
6. Sharing your data
We do not sell, rent, license, trade, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. Period.
The only situations in which we may share information are:
- With your consent. For example, if you explicitly ask us to forward your enquiry to a partner.
- To comply with law. If a court order, subpoena, or other lawful request from Indian authorities requires us to disclose information, we will comply to the extent legally required.
- To protect rights and safety. If we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to prevent fraud, abuse, or harm.
- In aggregated, anonymous form. For example, "10,000 visitors viewed the Mumbai gold rate page last month" — never linked to any specific person.
7. How long we keep data
We keep different types of data for different periods:
- Server logs: Up to 90 days for security and diagnostic purposes, then automatically rotated and deleted.
- Email correspondence: Kept as long as needed to handle your enquiry and for a reasonable follow-up period afterwards (typically 1 year), unless you ask us to delete it sooner.
- Aggregated analytics: Anonymous, cannot be linked back to individuals.
8. Your rights
Under Indian data protection law (including the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, where applicable) and similar laws in other jurisdictions, you have the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of any personal information we hold about you.
- Correct: Ask us to correct any information that is wrong.
- Delete: Ask us to delete your personal information (subject to legal record-keeping requirements).
- Withdraw consent: If we ever process your data based on consent, you can withdraw it at any time.
- Complain: Lodge a complaint with the relevant data protection authority if you believe your rights have been violated.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at support@goldratetoday.net.in. We will respond within 30 days.
9. Children's privacy
This site is not directed at children under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@goldratetoday.net.in and we will promptly delete the information.
10. Data security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the limited personal information we hold:
- The site is served over HTTPS (TLS encryption), so traffic between your browser and our server is encrypted.
- Server access is restricted to authorised personnel only.
- Email correspondence is stored in standard email service infrastructure with provider-level security.
However, no system is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, and you transmit information to us at your own risk. In the unlikely event of a security breach affecting your information, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as required by law.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time — for example, when we add new features or in response to legal changes. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will display a clear notice on the homepage for at least 14 days.
We encourage you to review this policy occasionally. Continued use of the site after changes means you accept the updated policy.
